the United States為專用名詞,首字母必須大寫.

作名詞,意為"國(guó)家,祖國(guó)",為可數(shù)名詞,其復(fù)數(shù)為countries.與the 連用,表示"國(guó)民",也可表示"鄉(xiāng)下,郊外,農(nóng)村".
China is a large country. 中國(guó)是個(gè)大國(guó).
The country like him very much. 全國(guó)人民都喜歡他.

作不及物動(dòng)詞,意為"居住",不能直接跟地點(diǎn)名詞,其后應(yīng)跟表示地點(diǎn)的狀語(yǔ),當(dāng)接表示地點(diǎn)的名詞時(shí),需加相應(yīng)的介詞.當(dāng)接表示地點(diǎn)的副詞時(shí),其后則不加任何介詞.
