Sexism in English
Abstract
Women, regarded as the weaker sex, are always looked down upon in our society. This gender bias also has a reflection in the English language. Such language is called sexist language. This thesis deals with sexism in English language use. After a brief introduction to some relevant background information, different definitions by several scholars of sexist language are offered. Various manifestations of sexism in English are examined. Causes of sexism, historical, cultural, as well as social, are analyzed and, strategies for the elimination of sexist language in English are suggested.

摘 要
在我們的社會(huì)中，婦女通常被認(rèn)為是弱勢(shì)群體而被輕視。這種性別歧視現(xiàn)象同樣體現(xiàn)在英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言中，這種語(yǔ)言被稱為性別歧視語(yǔ)言。本文分析了英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言中的性別歧視現(xiàn)象和原因，并且提出了避免這種現(xiàn)象的策略。論文第—部分簡(jiǎn)要介紹性別歧視語(yǔ)言的背景；第2部分闡述了各學(xué)者對(duì)性別歧視語(yǔ)言的定義；第3部分著重描寫了英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言表述中的性別歧視：第4部分從歷史文化和社會(huì)方面分析了語(yǔ)言中性別歧視現(xiàn)象存在的原因：第5部分為如何避免性別歧視提出了建議。
